When doing Reader's Response Journals I like to focus on a special skill that everyone in class can do as they read on different levels. For "characters" I had students read a chapter book on their level or this can work with various fiction picture books. After they read each day they would pick one of the
Reader Response activities to do in their journal. After 3 days they have done 3 activities which I graded with a
rubric.
A great way to introduce characters is using
http://www.brainpopjr.com/ If you have never used this site - Check it out! It's not free so our school pays for it. Love it!
You can also have students make
character trading cards on the computer. If your class doesn't have computer access here's a
template you can print out.
At this website students can Create Your Own Character
Have fun - Dana
