Math Tips!

I wanted to share math tips that I have learned from other teachers over the years - WOOHOO, they work.  The first one is the way our first grade teachers teach fact families.  Check out the picture below.  Almost every child got 100 on the paper we did today.  They shared their secret that they learned last year and carried it over today.

The next tip is for counting money.  Students put hairs on their coins.  Each hair is worth 5.  Students draw the hairs on their collection of mixed coins.  Then, they count the hairs by 5s.  This is especially helpful for struggling students.

Hope the tips can help you, too!  - Dana
